@firelily
what? no you install it once just like any other program.
no it will not work in wine, older versions are do able in vmware / virtualbox though.
also stick with xp, win7 is useless..

I am dual booting Ubuntu 9.10 and Win 7. I would totally switch over to Linux IF it runs Adobe Master Suite. So, you’re telling me with VM or Virtual box, you have to install Premiere everytime you “boot” into Windows? Do you have any experience with it running it under Wine?
Thanks in advance.

You could get the drivers for ubuntu from Nvidia.
Or just add restricted-ubuntu-extra in the installer. Then you can install nvidia drivers that are fully tested with ubuntu.
But be warned that it’s illegal in many countries. Since it uses some codecs that are patented…
I personally use Mandriva Free and added the PLF repositories… And it installs without any problems..
July 12th, 2010 18:49
Er, all I did was select “Install Restricted Drivers” when Ubuntu notified me that there were drivers available for me when I booted into Ubuntu. And then it was installed.
Shouldn’t that work for most cards? XD

Wasn’t anyharder to find for me than it was figuring windows for the first time. I just wish it wasn’t a hobby to make games work on WINE. If that happened the landscape would be quite different.

lost for words. fan-tas-tic!
July 12th, 2010 21:00
i love ubuntu but damn!!!! it was so hard to find the nvidia and my wireless card that i decide to downgrade to xp
July 12th, 2010 21:47
nvidia has WAY better support for linux than ati.
it is easy once you know how to do it.. for instance i use arch linux.. to install a nvidia card you type “Pacman -S nvidia” and boom your done… MUCH simpler than windows.
July 12th, 2010 22:01
MY ONLY COMPLAIN ABOUT UBUNTU AND SIMILAR IS SUPPORT FOR MY VIDEO CARD. ITS A NIGHTMARE TO INSTALL A GRAPHICS CARD FROM ATI AND WORSE IF ITS NVIDIA. And watch dvds or read mp3 files. For the rest i like it.

Sausagenmuff! Awesome! I have one question… How well does Premiere run in VMWare/Virtual Box. What limitations have you run into (i.e. capture/rendering/etc.)?
July 12th, 2010 23:51
Winwdows is for Porn, eh?
I was laughing!
But I wanted to thank you to show me, that I could use Premiere when I decide to take Linux as my first OS, which i didnt do yet, cause i need Premiere!
July 13th, 2010 00:34
now a days i reccomend VMware over VirtualBox.
it’s in your software repository, try it out.
July 13th, 2010 01:32
IF you use it every day, it’s not proof of concept, it’s just computing.
proof of concept would be if u do something, but never use it.
July 13th, 2010 01:58
Ok,
very cool. You can run Windows under Linux and Linux under Windows. You can’t run a simple and very popular kids game like Toontown under Linux any which way, using VMware, Virtualbox or anything else.
I am with you man, trust me. I want to run Premiere or FCP. What I don’t want to run is Windows. Yet what you show is that you can fiddle with two operating systems. I have done five at a time. It’s called proof of concept.

Please help. I need to be able to do exactly what you have done. I’m new to Ubuntu and linux. I need to get virtual box working to where it will run xp and therefore let me use Adobe Premiere and After Effects.
July 13th, 2010 03:04

July 13th, 2010 04:18
turn both transparancy sliders down to about 22% in the cube options.
then in GENERAL options make sure to turn OFF lighting.
that should do it
July 13th, 2010 04:59
which compiz option did you use to get the background go transparent to show the windows of the other desktops?
I’ve tried a lot of “transparency” options in compiz, but none got it to look like that
July 13th, 2010 05:02
its’ called “seamless mode” and comes intigrated into Virtualbox, when you use the guest additions CD.
though it doesn’t seem to work for everyone. just like a lot of things, the Bleeding Edge is quite often buggy.
