jkOnTheRun- First look at the MSI Wind with 6-cell battery

Kevin Tofel spends 20 minutes showing every aspect of the MSI Wind with Windows XP. The 6-cell battery with this netbook should last for at least five hours. It’s quick to sleep and resume!

Great review! I was just wondering how heavy the Wind was with the 6 cell battery. My current netbook (Asus eee PC 1000H) is 3.2 lb with a 3 cell so I’m looking for something a bit lighter and hoping the Wind would be less than 2.5 lb.

99% sure it comes with a 60-day trial. But I’d check out OpenOffice. Basically freeware Microsoft Office. Switched a year ago and haven’t looked back.

not really, the 160gb 6 cell model can be had for about $330… or even as low as $260 (i’m gonna get one at that price) brand new on ebay.

geat review, thanks! Only thing is, at least for me, if you’re gonna spend 600 for this you may as well get a real laptop. I know you’d lose portability but you get more in functionality. IMHO

matte screen is better for reading – less eye strain. Gloss is better for pr0n.

HEY!I just bought this laptop and recieved it from the mail today. Only problem is I cannot connect to my wireless belkin network or connect to my modem with USB wire. I got a cd that says driver, install. But there is no CD on the MSI. When you recieved your MSI how did you get wireless connection? Mine says “not connected” but I know my router is working because my iPod Touch recieves the wireless network. But my Laptop can’t. Do I need to update Driver? Thanks. :)

I’ve had a wind (3 cell) a while now. Really nice review, the way you narrate/present the MSI Wind is great!

What input voltage does the MSI Wind require? Would it be compatable with the 16-20 volt DC output of the APC Universal Notebook Battery?

Ow, right – we also got the new EEEpc with Atom & it’s also around $690 (but I believe that it has 6-cell battery). I don’t really like the design (if comparing it to One or Wind), but the fact that it has a lot better battery it’s also not something to ignore.

Hi Kev, great review (as always =)).

Well, I have a question – I’ve been buying a “mini pc” for quite some time … but we actually only had EEEpc 701 until a few weeks ago.

Now I have a possibility to buy either:
    1) Acer Asipre One (~ $570)
    2) MSI Wind (~ $690)

There are the prices in my country – both with Windows XP & 3-cell battery =/

As you had the opportunity to test them both, maybe you can give me some feedback on +/- for this mini notebooks.

I was planning on getting one of these but after seeing the Everrun Note AMD Dual Core, everything else is on the bottom of the list now.
