for windows xp i use a program called bootvis from microsoft, it makes a noticible difference in boot times with windows xp. give it a try

ccleaner is free and does speed up your pc by deleting unnecessary files and cleaning the registry. very customizable deletion, you can analyze before you delete, etc.

Guys, the only way to get your pc fast is NOT TO INSTALL CRAP.
These programs do more bad than good to your pc.
All those programs that say “Speed up your pc!” or, “speed up your boot”, are safe, but they only make your pc worse.
The only way to get rid of your slowness, is to, try and unninstall all the crap you don’t need (take some time and do it!), and delete all the files you don’t need (be careful). If that doesn’t work, format the pc, and only install necessary files (games too)

for my computer I also done the following: -click on an empty space on desktop and select properties –> settings –> advanced –> *your video card name here* and set all options to high performance or off
-when starting a game start task manager (ctrl+alt+delete) and click the “processes” tab,right click the game (or application) oyu wanna run,go to set priority and set it to :high” (realtime will screw your system)
