There’s a big error in this video. On the client he should have put in the gateway address, and not the VPN server’s internal LAN IP address. His client was on the same LAN, so it worked for him, but if he was actually in a remote location (the whole point of setting up a VPN) and not on the same LAN, it would not have worked.

@SonicOrbStudios VPN allows your computers or devices to be connected anywhere around the world where there is internet connection. Workplaces use this to keep their workers connected. A VPN is useful because if you are, for example, at an internet cafe, and you want to go check your email, connecting to your VPN encrypts the connection so that nobody can see what you are doing.

same issue here, error 800.
The remote connection was not made because the attempted VPN tunnels failed. The VPN server might be unreachable. If this connection is attempting to use an L2TP/IPsec tunnel, the security parameters required for IPsec negotiation might not be configured properly.
Maybe someone can help. Already forward ports 1723 and GRE 47 to vpn server. also enabled vpn pass through.

Are any particular setting in order to browse local network by computer name? (when connected over VPN to the said network)

So what’s the main reason to setup a VPN compared to just jumping on your standard network?

i setup the windows 7 VPN server and forwarded port 1723, infact there is a dmz to my machine, but i still cannot connect using my XP machine at office. even tried the options mentined in tourble shooting, it keeps saying the protocols are incorrect. any idea how i can fix that?
September 3rd, 2010 12:47
1. Allow VPN passthrough in the router.
2. NAT fwd TCP 1723 Port to the machine that is listening to VPN
With abov it was fin with vista but, in win7 though it gets connectd the packets were not transmitted.
3. NAT fwd TCP 443 to the computer listening to vpn request.
configure any firewall in computer them to accept these ports.
kespersky seems to hv problem with vpn when i tried with my collegue.
Port 47 is trigger port for VPN, this the reason that you are enabling vpn passthrough.
