You wouldn't believe the amount of people that would say "what do I do with the ubuntu file" or "how do I put it on a disc".

You need the image on a disc or some other bootable media to be able to install. It certainly is a part of the subject of installing.

It is possible but a little more involved. Google around a bit and you should find something.

Mandriva(the distribution I use) uses hybrid ISOs that can easily be dumped to a flash drive to install. So if you wanted to use that distro it would probably be easier.

Thats a common problem with the way Windows stores files. All I can say is run defrag a few times and possible try a 3rd party defrag program.

If that doesn't help a clean install would probably be the safest way.

You could use a different partition tool like GParted but I can't guarantee that all your data will be there afterwards.

I use 32 bit Linux(I actually use Mandriva, not Ubuntu). I've had problems with 64bit linux in the past so I tend to stay away. Similar process with XP but XP doesn't have it's own partition tool so you are going to have to use a 3rd party program like GParted,

Yes, but I believe you have to find a download for a USB version. I'm not entirely sure, so Google it.

No, deamon tools is a program within windows. To install you need to boot into Linux. You'll have to burn a cd/dvd or use a flash drive or some other external media.
