Windows 7 vs Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx Boot time?
First of Let me get this out. I know this is an unfair test, As the Windows machine has a raid card, but understand the Windows machine is far more powerful. Specs as follows for Windows machine. Dual 3.0Ghz Intel Xeon (2MB L2 Cache per processor) 6GB of Ram @ 400MHz 10k RPM SCSI Drive ATi x700 Pro Graphics card. Specs for the Ubuntu system 1 x 3.0GHz Intel Xeon (2MB L2 Cache) 4GB of RAM @ 400MHz 7200RPM Sata Drive nVidia Quadro NVS 280 Both machines have the Same motherboard too. Hyper Theading enabled on both machines. And both systems are 64bit OSs
Zwei 3,0 Ghz Intel Xeon (2 MB L2-Cache pro Prozessor) 6 GB Ram @ 400 MHz 10 k u/min SCSI Laufwerk ATi X 700 Pro Grafikkarte. Daten für die Ubuntu-System 1 x 3,0 GHz Intel Xeon (2 MB L2-Cache) 4 GB RAM @ 400 MHz 7.200 u/min Sata-Laufwerk nVidia Quadro NVS 280 sowohl Maschinen haben das gleiche Motherboard zu. Hyper Theading auf beiden Rechnern aktiviert. Und beide Systeme sind 64bit OSs. 10.04, Boot, Lucid, Lynx, time, Ubuntu, Windows, windows 7, windows 7 vs ubuntu 10, windows 7 vs ubuntu 10.04, www.youtube.com,

Yeah programs that installed in Windows take longer to actually boot, so even though it’s on everything is not working off the bat. You generally need to to wait a few more seconds 10-20 in order to actually open applications. In Ubuntu you can start surfing the web once the desktop has loaded, mac and Linux are the same when it comes to this. This is something Windows has yet to master. having said that, Windows 7 is a huge improvement over Vista and XP.

Yep,on windows you need to wait few seconds after desktop is loaded,on Ubuntu you dont have to

Actually, that wasn’t close at all. The moment you see the Desktop in Windows means nothing. Almost a third of the stuff still has to load. The right way to do this test is to have both open Firefox and go to a home page. That eliminates the error caused by back ground loading since it shows you when you can actually start working.
