I purchase computer stuff with the attitude that it will practically be out of date by the time I get it. I’d say, save your money, and get a really good one. Therefore, I recommend Windows 7 Ultimate.

The Upgrade version lets you switch from Windows Vista to Windows 7 without paying the full price. The non-upgrade version lets you install Windows 7 without having Vista already installed.
Just go with Windows 7 Home Premium. You don’t need the bells and whistles of the other two, they’re both oriented towards businesses and overkill for most home users.
