great vids! you mention that the 10v was made available with 2 different screen resolutions… i might be buying one used, if the seller is unaware, how could i make sure i’m getting the 1024×600? were the newer resolution screens made after a certain date?

Well, 7 runs pretty smoothly to begin with, at least in my opinion. Both Ubuntu and OS X run pretty well too. Just remember you’re not dealing with a powerhouse of a computer. There will, unfortunately, be slowdowns. And, it also depends really on what you’re trying to do. The RAM was a big deal for me, not so much because it would make it faster, but because it was easier to have more applications running, which I frequently have a lot of open.

Most likely you would. I know I have always done that when doing a triple boot, but then again, to me it’s just easier.

I just got my Dell Mini 10v born with Win 7 Starter. It’s quite slow to work in – can someone tell me if installing Ubuntu or OS X makes it faster? And if so which one of those is fastest? THANKS!!

You’re welcome..
I wouldn’t use final cut pro on anything below a strong dual core, 2gb of ram, 256mb video card and hdd that runs at 7200 and screen resolution of 1440×900 That would be the bare minimum for mini dv tape… I’d recommend quad core, 4 to 8gb of ram and two screens with 1920 x 1200!

Sorry, not too familiar with anything beyond the Dell Mini’s for hackintoshing.
June 9th, 2010 14:12
Thanks for the feedback on that! FCP is something I have no experience with at all.
June 9th, 2010 14:53
can anyone recommend a new pc laptop that can run fcp good on it?i just dont have the money for a macbook at the moment.thanks
June 9th, 2010 15:27
Forget FCP on netbooks man.
1) the screen is too small
2) cpu is too slow
3) hdd will probably be too slow as well.. and you’d need more ram as well.

thank you for this

Having never used Final Cut Studio, I honestly don’t know. My gut would tell me that you wouldn’t want to render any videos though because of potential cooling issues. It might work, but probably not worth the effort.

you should try to become a partner! you rock!
June 9th, 2010 18:03
do you think final cut studio would run ok on it? i would like too have a cheap video editing mac/pc like that.
