Ubuntu Karmic alpha2 and Windows 7 Bootup / shutdown speed test race. Both laptops are identical Except processor in Windows machine it Intel C2D 7250 whereas Ubuntu is C2D 7100.

The laptop I’m watching this on came with Vista, and ran just fine, no problems, but I added Ubuntu so I could have dual boot, and since installing Ubuntu, I haven’t used Vista b/c it’s so slow by comparison

@kingmedabe I prefer my Apple computer, but I have an older Dell laptop that runs Kubuntu that I take to back and forth to school.
Linux is a great operating system, and it’s just as powerful and sleek looking as any around. I still prefer my Mac though. =D

hated vista, started running on linux for a while, but ive just bought windows 7, and i have to say, everything i hated in vista is fixed, it seems to run as smoothly as ubuntu and OSX, and tbh i prefer the win7 UI over linux or OSX, and boot time isnt a problem for me. just nice to be able to have windows compatibility with a decent speed since XP.

I recently started using ubuntu 9.10. Even though i’m a newbie in linux i’ve to admit that its much better than windows. B’coz its it orks much smoother than windows. Its not slow unlike windows which is fast only at the first few day of installation, then i have to keep cleaning the temp file with no use.What i like abt ubuntu is that its much stable than windows… And today i’have installed KDE whcih is really readlly great.. i’m waiting for the next release.

well i got a real job unlike you idiots. I need shit that works with all software. until ubuntu gets with the program than you can talk shit. it’s free? thats not usually good. Ubuntu has nothing on windows. notice the millions that have windows over any OS.

Wow – same progression from Amiga’s to Windows too. I’ve recently moved to Ubuntu deciding that if I was to upgrade from XP, it’s not worth paying for Windows 7 if something else was free and well supported.
…I’ve got Windows on an old laptop for those tasks I can’t do on Linux – but there aren’t many, thanks to WINE…

Well, actually many of my friends use Linux (not Ubuntu necessarily) and so do I. Actually I’ve been a Windows user for too long time (before that I was an Amiga user) and the truth is that Ubuntu is just better: It runs faster, it looks nice and unlike Windows systems, it usually works and I can actually get things done! But I agree that the lack of drivers is a problematic thing.
Anyway, for gamers I suggest to get a life and others I wish a nice day!

Linux is better. First IT IS FREE! Second it has LOWER SYSTEM IMPACT. Third, IT IS MODULAR – apps crashing doesn’t make a restart necessary. Fourth, WRITING PROGRAMS IS SIMPLER – windows requires 10 thousand dollar software to write commercial apps for and more for a debugger. Both are free in Linux and well supported. Fifth – NO FUCKING VIRUSES. Sixth – It runs on anything – your cell phone, your TV, your DVR, your BluRay player. Also SUPER COMPUTERS USE LINUX. Even my robots run Linux.

YOur right Bearcrusher6, it’s not a graphical OS system. Maybe it should be, if the Motto to destroy windows is to be set properly. There are more people on PC and Mac, cuz they need it4 entertainment & serious Video gaming, and Video editing purposes. If Ubuntu could get Every damn Graphics card uptodate, and perfectly recognized and no WINE junk just straight program use, than will Ubuntu be #1. for all type of work, like programming and such. YOu cannot disagree Ubuntu needs major adjustments

Ubuntu Is Faster because the Graphics are not as good as Windows 7 which eats a lot of RAM, so technically, Windows 7 Is Slower but much better themes. I Have Windows 7 and Ubuntu, but I think Windows 7 lost in Booting, but won in graphics and themes.
