How do I keep Windows 7 from shutting off my HD after being inactive for a short while?
It seems that the default Windows 7 setting is to shut a SATA storage drive off after being inactive in something like 15 minutes. I don’t think this is very healthy for my HD because I use the PC almost all day, and it ends up shutting down and restarting all the time. Is there a place in the control panel where I can turn this timer off?

I believe there is a way to change the settings try searching for Power in the control panel. It might give you a link to a page that allows you to change your power settings.

I agree that changing your power options may fix the issue. Learn more about power plans here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Power-plans-frequently-asked-questions
