There’s numerous guides out there. I honestly don’t remember now it’s been so long, but it was essentially copying the contents over, and making it bootable.

IIRC, and I may be wrong, I think that OS X is based off of some flavor of BSD. I think earlier versions (like 10.4 and prior) may have been Linux. I’m too lazy to check the accuracy though.

how do u get windows 7 on the thumb drive?
May 23rd, 2010 23:19
in the first step…where did u get the sys linux files from and also where did you get the dell mini boot 8.02b1 iso?

Its funny at how the little thinking spiral looks just like Ubuntu’s… I have heard that mac is basically started out as a linux based system it self…
May 23rd, 2010 23:25
Given my ability to speak my native language, it probably sounded like shit..

Did you say “shit” Fhand or “Shift” left hand on 2:52

I suspect that part 2 is in reference to the second set of videos. Due to YouTube limitations, I had to split part one and part two videos, so there’s something like two videos for part one and three videos for part two.

part 2?

10.6 Snow Leopard TransMa’ced on USB. ->Syslinux: I hit escape and choose the “81″ option .I get a “Press Enter to start up Darwin/x86 with no options, or you can: type -v and press enter to start up with diagnostic messages. Type a ‘?’ and press Enter to learn about advanced startup options” Followed by a “boot:” prompt with blinking cursor… When I use wither the Enter, or -v arguments the syslinux loops back to the previous screen…”Enter two-digit hex…80 or 81….blah blah blah…

It very likely would be. I had issues (for whatever reason, probably the drive itself) getting gparted to cooperate with me on a USB key I tried it on. Since I really only needed to do this the one time, I was content with the method I used.
May 24th, 2010 01:32
I hope not!
May 24th, 2010 02:16
your going to shit f10?
May 24th, 2010 03:10
Hey anguish thanks for the guide. I haven’t tried yet, but I do think it would be easier to boot from linux rescue cd on USB and run gparted. For most, the GUI is a welcome addition when partitioning and formatting.

how do i prepare the thumb drive i have got all the windows 7 install stuff i just dont know how to prepare***sorry its a dumb question but im new to the minis and usually just use discs**
May 24th, 2010 04:00
Is this Illegal?
May 24th, 2010 04:15
The obvious question is that you are in the install for WIndows 7, correct? If so, you should be able to get in without issues.. HOWEVER, and it isn’t something I had thought of, but you may need to hold the FN key down. By default, that would be hitting PRNT SCRN unless you changed it in the BIOS, which you can see that I actually did. HTH!
May 24th, 2010 04:32
for some reason, i am stuck on the shft+f10 part, i get nothing when i press them. any thoughts?
May 24th, 2010 05:14
Clarified
May 24th, 2010 05:59
Agreed, these videos are so helpful anguish, thanks for making this process much easier.
May 24th, 2010 06:57
Yeah, but X sounds better..
May 24th, 2010 07:20
I don’t believe I did anything to the USB drive I use to make Windows 7 bootable. Just the copying/renaming of a particular file.
