Question by Shayn: How can i get rid of a number of OS’s from the OS choice menu at windows boot up securely and effectivley?
I am operating XP home and i want way too keep it.

I mounted windows 7 a although again, and deleted the partition it was on. But its even now on the options menu as default OS. Ive utilised the MS config strategy of changing the sequence so that MS XP Property is my default OS but it doesnt perform, it nevertheless defaults the non existant windows 7.

The very first display screen i see when i boot is “Windows seven” “Before versions of windows”
So i highlight earlier versions and push enter.
Then i get “Windows XP Specialist Setup” (Which i also want to get rid of, and tried to do so by deleting “c:$ WIN_NT$ .~BTBOOTSECT.DAT=”Microsoft Windows XP Professional Setup” from boot.ini but it just re-seems in the file on reboot)
And Windows XP House.

In MSCONFIG with windows XP Property, you cannot delete OS’s from the OS choice menu, you can only move them and set the defualts, which as ive explained, doesnt function.

Ive also tried the System>Advanced>Startup&Recovery>Edit strategy of modifying my boot.ini file, but i didnt want to delete anything as im unfamiliar with the process and cant pay for to lose the data i have on my tough drives.

Right here is my “Boot.ini” details pasted in full.

All aid appreciated.

Warning: Boot.ini is used on Windows XP and before working systems.
Warning: Use BCDEDIT.exe to modify Windows Vista boot choices.

[boot loader]
timeout=20
default=multi()disk()rdisk()partition(1)WINDOWS
[operating programs]
multi()disk()rdisk()partition(1)WINDOWS=”Microsoft Windows XP Property Version” /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT
do:$ WIN_NT$ .~BTBOOTSECT.DAT=”Microsoft Windows XP Specialist Setup”

Reply by Chris A
Hey,

I had the identical dilemma a although back again when I taken out the BETA Win 7 from my laptop or computer… I utilised a system known as EasyBCD to modify my boot alternatives – and to take away some of the options. You can find it for download from the businesses web site at the resource backlink beneath.

Hope this assisted!
